AI in Your Morning Cappuccino

Many of us starting the day with a cup of fresh cappuccino. A cappuccino is an espresso-based coffee drink that originated in Italy and is traditionally prepared with an espresso shot and steamed milk foam.

The name comes from the Capuchin friars, referring to the colour of their habits, and in this context referring to the colour of the beverage when milk is added in small portions to dark, brewed coffee (today mostly espresso). The physical appearance of a modern cappuccino with espresso créma and steamed milk is a result of the drink's long process of evolution over time.

Have you ever wondered about the challenges that farmers and dairy processors face every day to make sure you get a high quality streamed milk foam for your cappuccino?

Processors in the dairy industry face many challenges when it comes to the procurement and collection of milk. The issue extends beyond merely choosing the best route for milk lorries as there are factors other than the physical distance which need to be factored in. Production at farms depends on many elements including calving, weather and diseases. Besides, milk quantities required at processing factories can vary too.

Dairy farms can have different pumping technologies (e.g. pump, voltage) and storage capacity, all of which influence the types of milk lorries that they can serve. Likewise, milk lorries themselves have different capabilities for milk transportation.

Agreed collection and drop off times at farms and dairy factories also need to be considered, as well as delays from the production end or indeed traffic congestion which may result in late arrivals and customer dissatisfaction.

Many of these concerns can disappear, or at minimum be controlled, with proper planning and optimisation of milk collection. The former is an ongoing effort that colleagues at dairy processors have to contend with daily.

Coming back to your daily cappuccino; would you think it is a computer-aided intelligence that can help farmers and procurement or logistics experts at processors to have less stressful and more efficient day-to-day operations to ensure a smooth collection of milk to factories so that they can deliver high-quality milk products for your daily cappuccino?
